Project Overview – RMS (Roads and Maritime Services), NSW Government

  • In the NSW RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) project for the Australian Government, I served as a Senior Project Engineer within a 20-member DevOps and Build/Deployment team at Wipro Digital. The project focused on modernizing and migrating the legacy RMS RTO applications to a new, scalable, and automated technology stack.

  • My primary responsibility was contributing to the migration of legacy systems—including SVN to Bitbucket, Nexus to JFrog Artifactory, and Puppet to Ansible Tower—ensuring seamless transition without disrupting business-critical services. I collaborated closely with the team and client to understand existing workflows, design the migration roadmap, and deliver end-to-end automation solutions.

  • I worked extensively on Puppet-to-Ansible migration, converting large volumes of legacy configuration code to Ansible for multiple applications such as IIR, System Software Build, Gen Application Build, and PR/MI Batch modules. I created automated deployment pipelines using Ansible Tower and XL Release, enabling consistent, repeatable deployments across environments.

  • After deployment execution, I performed environment validation tasks by checking system/user accounts, installed packages, and service status across target servers, ensuring all applications were fully operational. I maintained strict adherence to defined processes, including writing, reviewing, and executing Ansible playbooks following best practices.

  • I also actively contributed in team and client meetings to understand requirements, clarify implementation details, and provide demos of how the old workflows were being transformed into the new toolchain. I supported onboarding of new team members, assisted colleagues with creating Ansible playbooks, and helped set up deployment pipelines through Tower and XL Release.

  • This project successfully automated manual operations, modernized the DevOps toolchain, eliminated legacy dependencies, and delivered a more efficient build and deployment ecosystem for the RMS platform, directly improving reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed for the NSW Government.
